What is Fiber Beat? ~~
Fiber Beat is not your regular knitting podcast. In fact, it covers a range of crafts using the fiber medium, such as spinning, weaving, felting, dyeing, shepherding, & crocheting. You can expect interviews with designers, authors, farmers, & businesses. WonderMike, editor-in-chief and intrepid reporter presents instructional video podcasts as well as product reviews. If you have a story, you'd like to share, give WonderMike a shout on Ravelry or leave a comment in the show notes!

Sponsoring Fiber Beat ~~
Fiber Beat is now accepting sponsorship. If you'd like to underwrite the show, please contact WonderMike who can give you rates and options.

Production Assistance ~~
Fiber Beat is a labor of journalistic love that requires considerable preparation, both before and after the actual interview. We use various audio/computer equipment to record, edit and publish each episode of the show. Your donations make this work possible. Thank you very much!!!

Fiber Beat Reviews #1 (Phat Fiber Box)

There's a million crafters in Fiber City and we've all got a yarn to spin.

For this VERY FIRST Fiber Beat review, we feature an examination of the Phat Fiber "Fluff" Sampler Box.

The following Phat Fiber Box contributors, places and things were mentioned:

Fiber Beat CONTEST for Phat Fiber Sampler Box

We are giving away the Phat Fiber Sampler Box featured in this review. In keeping with the box theme of "For the Love of Books", I would like to know what you are reading this summer. For example, I'm reading Stieg Larsson's "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" and I'm loving it. Now, it's your turn. You can leave your comment on fiberbeat.com or on the Fiber Beat Ravelry forum. One winner will be randomly selected from all the entries. DEADLINE FOR ENTERING IS August 31, 2010.

A big fluffy thank you to everyone who downloaded and listened to the first EIGHTEEN episodes (audio/video) of Fiber Beat. Let me know what you think and leave a review on iTunes!

My name is WonderMike and I'll see YOU on the Fiber Beat!!

  • I'm reading The Knitter's Book of Wool by Clara Parkes and in audio form: The Passage by Justin Cronin. Love your podcast, knitting and spinning. I feel lucky today. It's my dog's birthday! -Peggy

  • I just finished reading "How to Knit A Love Song" by Rachel Herron--fun quick read made even more fun by the fact that it was set locally. Also finished reading the "Inkheart" trilogy while on the road with my kids this summer and loved the conclusion to the series--a very well written kids' series. Incidentally, they are also book lover's books. Each chapter begins with a quote from a classic book. Love it! Currently reading "Persuasion" by Jane Austen. I'm all for summer reads right now! Mike, I enjoy the podcast. Thanks! I'm off to check out Phat Fibers. I have to say that your box has me even more drawn in--fiber and books? How can I resist?

  • I've been reading T.A. Pratt's Marla Mason series which starts with Blood Engines - contemporary fantasy, highly recommend. I also read The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin, which is the first in a series (book 2 this fall) and is OUTSTANDING fantasy.

  • This summer my daughter and I have been frequenting our local library. I really enjoyed a mystery called The Missing Ink by Karen E. Olson. A fun read and characters you can befriend. I also re-read the Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire series (10 books os far) that was the inspiration for True Blood the HBO series.

  • I am also "listening" to the Stieg Larsson"s series and I am on the 3rd book "The girl who kicked the Hornet's Nest". This one has started a bit slower but it is picking up. Loved the first two. Nothing better then listening to a good book and knitting. Love you Podcasts!!!

  • I'm sorry you switched to m4a format. It's so much more difficult for me to convert those, that I usually just don't listen to those. I have enjoyed your podcasts in the past, but find that even though I know how to convert them, it's just a hassle and I don't like to bother. Could you do both? Maybe?

  • I'm reading, for the second time, the Diana Gabaldon series. I've NEVER read any book twice. I am such a sucker for historical based stories. Especially, since the author has done such a great job of mixing 1940's modern with 1700's British history. Now that I've moved to a very rural area "getting back to basics" is my total mission lately. LOVE the pod/vid-casts btw!!!

  • I finally picked up a copy of Alden Amos's Big Book of Handspinning and have been slooowly working my way through it. There's some great information in there! :-)

  • I'm reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series too and loving it. I'm also reading the Martin Beck series - the original police procedural series from Sweden back in the '60's.

  • I'm always reading something; it helps me get to sleep at night. Currently I'm reading "Drood" by Dan Simmons. It's a historical fiction book (love historical fiction!) and so far, very enjoyable.

  • My favorite book so far this summer is \\\\\\\"Mountains Beyond Mountains\\\\\\\" by Tracy Kidder. This is non fiction telling the story of Dr Paul Farmer founder of Partners In Health. Amazing man...wonderful writing, too. Just starting \\\\\\\"The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo\\\\\\\". Please no spoilers.
