Fiber Beat, Episode 23: "KnitSpot On" featuring Anne Hanson
Media Link: KnitSpot On (37:02)

Fiber Beat #23, KnitSpot On

There's a million crafters in Fiber City and we've all got a yarn to spin.

Entangled Magazine - new sponsor

This episode of Fiber Beat is made possible with the support of Entangled magazine, our brand new sponsor from New Zealand! Entangled is a new digital only, quarterly fibercraft publication. Issue Two featuring Wool & the Gang, Wooly Wormhead, and Donna Druchunas is out now and available through Zinio

Anne Hanson. never. stops. Those photographs she just took, will appear later on her blog. That class she just taught? She'll be teaching it again in another city in two weeks. That shawl she's wearing? It will be sold in her shop next week. And that yarn she's fawning over? It's going to be offered in her new yarn club. No rest... for the obsessed.

In fact, I had to steal her away from a lively cocktail party to conduct this interview and, true to form, she never put down her knitting needles. Anne Hanson is a vivid embodiment of the protestant work ethic… on steroids. If she's not designing, teaching, knitting, or photographing… she's blogging about all of it. As she says, she's constantly writing a book and giving it away for free each and every day online at knitspot.com.

The following people, places and things were mentioned:

Winner of Fiber Beat CONTEST for Episode No. 22

We had a rare, out of production tote bag from Ravelry for this episode's contest. It was the Fiber Animal Parade tote and it will not be made again (at least not in this fabric and by these folks)! The winner is Antony. Congratulations to him and thanks to everyone for participating!

Fiber Beat CONTEST for Episode No. 23

As a prize for this knitspot episode, Anne has offered us a $15 gift certificate to her pattern shop for one lucky listener. All you have to do to enter is answer the following question. What is YOUR favorite Knitspot pattern? As I've said, there are a LOT to peruse, over 200 designs. My favorite is one her men's designs that was also a Men's Fall Knitting Retreat donation: the Longjohn Sock: rugged, manly & stylish.

Now, it's your turn. You can leave your answer on fiberbeat.com or on the Fiber Beat Ravelry forum. Winners will be randomly selected from all the entries. DEADLINE FOR ENTERING IS September 30, 2011.

A prodigious remerciement to Anne for taking time from her cocktail party to be on the Fiber Beat. Big shout out to new Fiber Beat sponsor, Entangled magazine. Finally, the most industrious hug to all of you, our loyal listeners, for downloading and listening to our first THIRTY episodes (audio/video) of Fiber Beat! If you like what we do, please consider leaving a review on iTunes.

  • Thank you so much for having Anne on your show! It's great to have a voice to put with the face/website/patterns. Having to pick one favorite was too difficult, so I've got two: the Sprossling sweater, with it's amazing shaping built right into the stitch pattern, and the irtfa'a faroese shawl - that's my dream pattern.

  • I really enjoy your podcasts. I am so glad to have found it. Very upbeat and newsworthy. My favorite sweater of Annes is the Renee. It looks great in all sizes and colors. Would love to make.

  • Leaving in on my to knit list, but I also really like a lot of the lace scarfs and shawls she designs. Ann's patterns are so well written, knitting them is a joy!

My favorite patters: of the ones I've knit I really like the Roger Sock. One I would like to knit: Leaving.

  • Butternut scarf is a favorite, I appreciate the fact that the lace pattern is attractive on the back side. And one of these days, I'll even knit it.

  • Anne Hanson is my favorite knit designer so it is hard to choose just one...but I think right now it is Miss Doolittle...or maybe Almost Ovals

  • Leaving is Anne's pattern that always catches my eye. I love that she includes both a pullover and a cardigan. It's not the only pattern in my favorites!

  • Are you kidding? Favorite pattern. I love Anne Hanson. I couldn't possibly choose a single pattern over all of them. I own many of them and intend to knit them all. Thanks for a great show! I very much enjoyed listening.

  • Loved the episode as usual. My favorite Knitspot for the last 3 Madrona's has been the Cluaranach stole. I've seen different samples in different yarns and it stops me in my tracks every time.

  • My favorite pattern of Anne's is the Honeybee Stole. I'm on my second one and I just love the pattern and the finished stole is drop dead gorgeous!
